Infrastructure & networking

I design and build the environments your team develops and runs applications in, from the underlying systems to deployment and recovery.

What I can take on

Environment design

Work out where applications and data will live, how services connect and what development, test and production each need. Plan around the available infrastructure and the team that will operate it.

Systems, networks and storage

Build and configure Linux or Windows systems, virtualisation and networking. Set up storage, private connectivity, domains and certificates as part of the environment.

Application and data services

Bring application hosting, databases and persistent content into the same design. Connect the environment to the way developers build, review and deploy changes.

Backup and recovery

Define what needs protecting, configure backups and prepare recovery procedures for the data and the systems around it. Include the configuration and operating notes the team needs to maintain the environment.

Typical deliverables

  • Working environments with their network, storage and access configuration
  • Deployment configuration and documentation for routine operation
  • Backup configuration and recovery procedures for the agreed systems and data

Choose a setup the team can operate

The applications, existing hardware and maintenance responsibilities guide the design. Smaller projects may share infrastructure; other workloads need separate environments. Those decisions belong in the plan, along with how the team will make changes and recover from failures.
